Battle At Trevilian Station

Date : June 11-12, 1864.

Principal Commanders : Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan [US]; Maj. Gen. Wade Hampton [CS].

Estimated Casualties : 1,600 total.

June 11: Maj. Gen. Philip Sheridan with the Gregg’s and Torbert’s divisions attacked Maj. Gen. Wade Hampton’s and Fitzhugh Lee’s cavalry divisions at Trevilian Station. Sheridan initially drove a wedge between the Confederate divisions. However, on the 12th, Hampton and Lee drew a defensive line across the railroad and the road to Gordonsville. They repelled several assaults. Sheridan withdrew.
