Tannenberg World War One

General Alexander Samsonov was in command of "Russian Second Army". He advanced into the south western corner looking to link up with General Paul von Rennenkampf who was advancing from the north east.

When confronted by the Russian Second Army, General Maximilian Prittwit of the German Eighth Army, ordered a retreat. He was dismissed.

General Paul von Hindenburg and General Erich Ludendorff were sent to fight Russia`s troops. August 22, 1914: During first six days the Russians the Russians made good success. 29th August: In a turn of fate, Samsanov's, Second Army was surrounded.

Samsonov attempted to retreat. Trapped inside, most Russian troops were killed or captured. Samsanov committed suicide.
