Estimated Casualties : 720.

Maj. Gen. T.J. Jackson marched his troops along Parkersburg Road to confront two brigades of Frémont’s force (Milroy and Schenck). On May 8, at McDowell, Union troops under Brig. Gen. Robert Milroy seized an initiative and attacked the Confederate position on Sitlington’s Hill under Maj. Gen. Thomas J. Jackson. The Confederates were repulsed after fighting lasting over four hours.
