Joseph Goebbels Biography

Joseph Goebbels was born in Rheydt, Germany, 29th October, 1897. Won a Catholic scholarship. Gained a PhD from Heilderberg University. Suffered a bad limp in life caused by a bone operation as a child. Joseph Goebbels rejected by the German Army.

Goebbels wrote novels, plays and poems. However, Goebbels failed to get any of his work published and claimed discrimination.

Joseph Goebbels joined the National Socialist German Workers Party in 1926. Joseph Goebbels describes one of his first meetings with Adolf Hitler in his diary: "Shakes my hand. Like an old friend. And those big blue eyes. Like stars. He is glad to see me. I am in heaven. That man has everything to be king."

In 1928 Joseph Goebbels was elected to the Reichstag. Goebbels became the party's Propaganda Leader. Joseph Goebbels was appointed as Minister for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda.

On 1st May, 1945, Joseph Goebbels, his wife and six children, committed suicide.
