General Dwight Eisenhower 1890-1969

Born: October 14, 1890, Denison, Texas. One of seven sons. Graduated from Abilene High School, 1909. Joined United States Military Academy, West Point, June 14, 1911. Graduated June 12, 1915. Was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, September 1915.

Married Mamie Geneva Doud of Denver, Colorado, July 1, 1916. Promoted to First Lieutenant on July 1, 1916, Captain 1917, Major (temporary) 1918, Lieutenant Colonel (temporary) 1918. Reverted to permanent rank of Captain in 1920. Promoted to Major, 1920.

Entered Command and General Staff School, Ft. Leavenworth, in 1925. Graduated first in class.

Graduated, Army War College, Washington, D.C. June 30, 1928. Assigned to General MacArthur as assistant military advisor to the Philippine Government. Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, 1936.

Promoted to Colonel (temporary), 1941. Promoted to Brigadier General (temporary), 1941. Designated as Chief of War Plans Division, 1942. Promoted to Major General (temporary) 1942.

Designated Commanding General, European Theater, London, England, 1942. Named Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces, North Africa, 1942. Promoted to Lieutenant General (temporary), 1942. Promoted to General (4 stars) (temporary), 1943. Appointed Brigader General, 1943.

Appointed Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Forces, 1943. Commanded forces of Normandy invasion, 1944. Promoted to General of the Army (5 stars). Appointed Military Governor, U.S. Occupied Zone, Frankfurt, Germany.

Designated, Chief of Staff, U.S. Army, 1945. Named Supreme Allied Commander, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Europe. Retired from active service, May 31, 1952.

Served two terms as President of the United States. Died on March 28, 1969. Buried in the Place of Meditation at the Eisenhower Center, Abilene, Kansas.
