The Washington Monument is is the tallest building in Washington, D.C. and was built to honor "George Washington", the first President of the United States.
The monument was designed by architect Robert Mills who won a design competiion.
Work on the Washington Monument started on July 4, 1848 and was finally opened to the public on October 9, 1888.
