Great Seal of the USA

The Great Seal of the USA was designed by John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson. It was on June 20, 1782 that the design was given formal approval. However, the process for the Seal started six years earlier on July 4, 1776.

One of the interesting features of the Great Seal is the pattern of thirteen. For example: 13 stars in the crest above the eagle, 13 olives and leaves in the eagles right claw. The thirteen actually represents the first thirteen states. The official custodian of the Great Seal is the Secretary of State.
