The name Indiana, means "Land of the Indians".

The area of Indiana was first controlled by France until 1763.
Then by Great Britain.
Because of the result of the Treaty of Paris in 1763, the area of present-day Indiana passed from the French to the British.
In 1783, the British handed the region to the United States.
Indiana became the 19th State to join the Union on December 11, 1816.
Indianapolis is the capital.
