Construction of the Alamo Church in San Antonio, Texas started in 1744.
Until 1793, the Alamo was used as a church.
After that it became abandoned.
The Alamo came to fame during the Texas war for independence from Mexico when a handful of Texans held the Alamo for 13 days from an amry of thousands on Mexicans.
The Alamo was heavily damaged, but was later rebuilt in 1850.
In 1905, the State of Texas bought the Alamo, then later gave it to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas for maintainence as a public memorial.
