Tyche was the personification of
luck or chance.
She was often depicted with a rudder, guiding the
affairs of the world, or with a ball to represent the fact that
she was unpredictable and could "roll" in any direction at her
whim.
Her surname was Automatia, which indicated that she managed
things according to her own will without any regard to what an
individual deserved or desired.
