The Norfolk Terrier originated in 19th century England.
Good ratters were highly sought after and some breeders gained a reputation for their dogs.
Doggy Lawrence who bred small red terriers and it is believed that these dogs were the foundation of both Norfolk and Norwich Terriers.
The original purpose was to hunt vermin and foxes and badgers.
Prior to 1979 the Norfolk Terrier was known as the Norwich Terrier with drop ears.
In 1979 it became known as the Norfolk Terrier.
Norfolk Terriers are people oriented dogs and do not like to be left alone.
They also require a lot of exercise.
