EARLY YEARS OF THE KNIGHTS TEMPLAR

The Knights Templar were established as a religeous order. Hughes de Payens became the first Grand Master.

The Templar were described as warrior monks. They were granted the right to wear the white mantles of purity.

They were also obliged to grow beards to separate them from the other lesser fraternities. In 1146 the Knights were awarded the conventual blood cross.

After the council of Troyes the rise of the Knights Templar was very swift. They became involved in diplomacy and the highest level of politics throughuot the world. They were advisors to Monarchs and Parliaments alike. Bloodline of the Holy Grail
