During the crusading era many knightly orders emerged, including that of the Knights Templar.
Some accounts say the Knights Templar were founded in 1118 as the Poor Knights Of Christ.
It was said the Knights were founded by a group of nine French Knights.
These Knights took vows of chastity, obediance and poverty.
They swore to protect the holy land.
Historian Guillaume de Tyre wrote that the Templars safegaurded the highways for pilgrams.
Although this is doubtful.
The truth is there was a lot more to the Knights Templar.
They were probably around for a few years before it was said they were founded by Hughs de Payens.
The Knights Templar were the Kings diplomats in a Muslim enviroment.
Hughs de Payens was the first Grand Master of the Templars.
The Knights Templar were a very select group.
