WATER FROM PLANTS

The hollow joints of bamboo often fill with water.

Cup shaped plants will cathch and store water.

Cut a grapevine high then low about six foot in length. Water will pour into your mouth. You can acquire about ½ pint from this length if you cut it off again when it gels over. You cut it high first, otherwise the plants defense mechanism, capillary action, draws it back up before you can drain it.

Beware that not all vines have drinkable water.

In Australia you will find the desert oak, water tree and bloodwood have their roots near the surface. Cut the roots in 12 inch lengts after removing from ground. Strip the bark and suck out the moisture.

Coconut, buri and nipa palms all contain a sugery fluid that you can drink.

Bend a flowering stalk downwards and cut off the tip. If you cut a thin slice off the stalk every 12 hours the flow will be renewed. You should collect a quart each day.

Cacti : Water can be found in the fruit and body but you need be carefull as some cacti are poisonous.
