The history of Badminton can be traced to ancient Greece about 2000 years ago.
From there over tome it spread to India, China and Thailand.
In early England children played games called Battledore and Shuttlecock in the streets.
In 1854, Punch magazine published a cartoon on the game.
British Army officers in Pune, India, In the 1860s, developed a modified version of the game of Battledore and Shuttlecock by adding a net.
The new game was known as,"Poona".
These soldiers brought the new game back to England where it soon became known as Badminton.
In 1877, the Bath Badminton Club became the first badminton club in the world.
In 1893, the Badminton Association of England published the first official set of rules for Badminton.
In 1899, the All England Open Badminton Championships became the first badminton competition in the world.
In 1934, the International Badminton Federation (IBF) was founded.
