GERMAN SHEPHERD

The German Shepherd was bred almost entirely in the 1900s. German Shepherds were used originally for herding.

Later on the German government used the dog in police and military work. The German Shepherd was also the first dog used as a Guide Dog.

In Germany the dog was used as a military dog during WW1 and WW2.

Because German Shepherds are herding dogs they will in a way herd their owner's family. They are also very protective of their pack.

Particularly with the females who may become aggressive when their owner is threatened. The German Shepherd is one of the easiest dogs to train.
