Sarah Margaret Ferguson (nickname-Fergie) was born in London on October 15, 1959.
She is a distant relation of the royal family and saw much of them when she was a child.
In fact her and Prince Andrew played together as children.
Sarah as a child was an accomplished horse rider and won a number of trophy's.
Both Sarah and her sister Jane attended boarding school.
It is said that Sarah didnt like boarding school.
In 1972 Sarah's parents separated.
Her mother eventually remarried and moved to Argentinia while her father also remarried and had three more sons.
Sarah graduated from Queens secretarial college at the age of 18 and went to work in a public relations firm.
Later she also worked for an art gallery and a publishing company.
In the year of 1985 Sarah was invited to a party at Windsor Castle to celebrate Royal Ascot.
It was during this time that her and Prince Andrew stared their relationship.
In 1986 on March 19 Sarah and Prince Andrew became engaged.
Then on July 23, 1986 they were married in Westminster Abbey.
Their first child was Beatrice born in 1988 and their second child was Eugenie born in 1990.
Prince Andrew was serving in the navy which meant they shared little time together.
She saw him on average 42 days a year.
During this time Sarah learnt to fly a helicopter and did a large amount of charity work.
It was her experience learning to fly a helicopter that eventually led Sarah to write a series of childrens books "Budgie the Little Helicopter".
In March 1992 Sarah and Prince Andrew separated and eventually divorced in May 1996.
Sarah and Prince Andrew share joint custody of their children and still live together.
However they share separate living quarters.
Sarah and Prince Andrew are the best of friends and many say one day they will remarry.
