KING WILLIAM ONE

King William 1 was born in Falaise, 1027 or 1028. William I of England, known as William the Conqueror, was Duke of Normandy from 1035 to 1087 and King of England from 1066. In support of his claim to the English crown, William invaded England in 1066, leading an army of Normans to victory over the Anglo-Saxon forces of Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings, and suppressed subsequent English revolts in what has become known as the Norman Conquest.

Ascended the Throne : December 25, 1066.

Coronation : Westminster Abbey, December 25, 1066.

Married : Matilda, Daughter of Count of Flanders.

Children : Four sons and six daughters.

King William 1 died September 9, 1087.

King William 1 was buried in St Stephens Abbey, Caen, Normandy.

Known as William the Bastard.

William died after the pommel of his saddle struck him in the stomach.
