KING EDWARD 1

King Edward 1 was born Westminster, June 17, 1239. Was popularly known as Longshanks, also as "Edward the Lawgiver" or "the English Justinian" because of his legal reforms, and as "Hammer of the Scots".

Ascended the Throne : November 20, 1272.

Coronation : Westminster Abbey, August 19, 1274.

Married : (1) Eleanor, Daughter of Ferdinand 111 of Castile, (2) Margaret, Daughter of Philip 111 of France.

Children : Three sons and thirteen daughters.

Died : Burgh-by-Sands, Cumbria, July 7, 1307.

Buried : Westminster Abbey.

Edward produced more legitimate children then any other Monarch. Edward was voted the 92nd greatest Briton in the 2002 poll of 100 Greatest Britons.
