KING CANUTE OF ENGLAND

King Canute was born c.995. Canute the Great, or Canute I, also known as Cnut in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles was a Viking king of England, Denmark, Norway, parts of Sweden, as well as overlord of Pomerania and the Mark of Schleswig. Canute was a son of the Danish king Swegen Forkbeard and the Slavic princess, Saum-Aesa.

Ascended the Throne : November 30, 1016.

Coronation : Possibly St Pauls Cathedral, London, c.1017.

Married : (1) Elgiva, (2) Emma of Normandy.

Children : Three sons, two daughters, several illegitimate children.

King Canute Died Shaftesbury, November 12, 1035.

King Canute was buried in Winchester Cathedral. Canute was generally thought to be a wise and successful king of England.
