The Pomeranians derive their name from Pomerania which was a former duchy in the region now shared between eastern Germany and western Poland.
Pomeranians of this period were substantially larger than the modern variety of Pomeranians.
The breed was officially recognized in 1870.
They enjoy going for short walks but they are generally suited to home life.
They mostly spend their days with long period asleep.
