Gregory Peck was born on April 5, 1916, in La Jolla, California.
He was raised by his grandmother after his parents divorced when he was five years old.
Gregory attended a military school, and then attended San Diego High School.
After graduation Gregory enrolled at San Diego State University.
He enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley as a pre-med student.
Here, he got involved in acting and appeared in five plays during his senior year.
Peck studied in New York at the Neighborhood Playhouse.
During these years, Peck was so poor, he often slept in Central Park.
In 1942, Peck made his Broadway debut in "The Morning Star".
His debut film was "Days of Glory" (1944).
Peck was nominated for his role in "The Keys of the Kingdom" (1944).
Gregory won the Golden Globe and was again nominated for an Academy Award for "The Yearling" (1946).
For his role as Lawyer Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962), Peck won an oscar.
He was nominated five times for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Peck was awarded the Academy's Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1967.
Gregory was also awarded the Medal of Freedom.
He was an opponent against the Vietnam War.
Peck died on 12 June, 2003 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Gregory Peck has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6100 Hollywood Blvd.
