Lighthouse Terms

Lighthouse: Structure with a signal to help guide ships at sea.

Beacon: Illuminated or unlighted aid to ships at sea.

Lamp: A type of device for producing light.

Daybeacon: Also referred to as a daymarker. Lighthouses have individual shapes and colorings for daytime identification.

Illuminant: Lamp or similiar device, or substance used by the lamp.

Fresnel Lens: Optic that improves the lighthouse light beam.

Optic: Lenses, prisms or mirrors of an optical device.
