Christ the Redeemer Statue

The Christ the Redeemer Statue is a large 125 feet tall, Art Deco-style statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The statue is located at the peak of the Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park. The Christ the Redeemer Statue overlooks the city.

The statue was first proposed in the mid 1850s by priest Pedro Maria Boss, but rejected by Princess Isabel. A second proposal was made in 1921 which was accepted and eventually lead to the building of the Christ the Redeemer Statue.

The statue was designed by a French monumental sculptor Paul Landowski.
