Sydney Harbour Bridge

1815: Francis Greenway proposes building a bridge from northern to southern shore of the harbour.

1900: Design submissions invited.

After World War One, a general design for the Sydney Harbour Bridge was prepared by Dr J J C Bradfield and officers of the NSW Department of Public Works.

1922: Contract given to English firm Dorman Long and Co of Middlesbrough.

1924: Construction starts.

Sydney Harbour Bridge took eight years to build at a cost of £4.2 million.

The Bridge opened on 19 March, 1932.
