Iman Abdulmajid

Born July 25, Mogadishu, Somalia.

She was the daughter of a diplomat.

Went to Kenya to study Political Science at the University.

After meeting fashion photographer, Peter Beard, she went to New York.

In 1979, became the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of Vogue.

Appeared in the movie "Out of Africa".

In 1994, Iman launched her own line of cosmetics.

Iman Abdulmajid is an active member of Action Against Hunger, Mother's Voices, The Children's Defense Fund, and the All Children Foundation,. An occasional actress, Iman played a shapeshifter named Martia in the 1991 hit film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and appeared in the Oscar-winning film Out of Africa alongside Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. Iman guest-starred in an episode of Bravo's hit TV show Project Runway.
