ALASKAN MALAMUTE

The Alaskan Malamutes originated with the native Innuits known as the Mahlemiut. It was mostly used to haul the food back to the village.

The dog has incredible strength and as such was used as a heavy freighting dog. Malamutes are able to pull a tremendous amount of weight over long distance.

The gold rush of around 1896 created a demand for the Malamute.

The Malamute is really unsuitable for many people because of their sheer strength. This dog should not be left under the control of children or the elderly.

Malamutes do not bark but have a unusual howl. The dog is very stubborn and demanding.

They are also aggressive with other dogs. They are not guard dogs and cannot be attack trained.

Alaskan Malamute is a double coated breed which consists of a woolly undercoat and longer guard hairs. Twice a year Malamutes shed their undercoats.

Malamutes may range in size from 22" to 32'' and 30 to 67kg in weight.
