THE CRUCIFIXTION

The crosses themselves interestingly enough were actually made from the wooden posts that were used to erect the tents for visiting villagers. The exact location of the crucifiction is easily placed.

The gospels say that the place of the crucifixtion was known as the "place of the skull". This supports the fact that the crucifixtion took place in a graveyard.

The exact location lay outside the southern entrance to the Qumran complex.

Contrary to belief Jesus was not placed in the middle cross but on the western one of the three. This is most clearly indicated in the pesher.

Simon was placed in the centre, being the position of the priest. Judas being his second was placed on the east and Jesus being the King of the Jews was placed on the west.

The main subject of these executions was in fact Simon. The method the three were strung up by was designed to slow the circulation and damage the internal organs.

This method of death lasted days or weeks and was chosen so as to deliver the most pain and suffering. As Jesus was about to be placed on the cross he was offered wine with poison but he refused.

After six hours on the cross a drink with poison was given to Jesus and he fell unconscious. Jesus did not die on the cross.

Jesus recovered from the poison and was helped to escape where he went to Rome.
