ISOFLAVONES

For women between the ages of 35 to 55 a number of changes take place including a reduction in the body's production of oestrogen which may result in a series of imbalances. Diminishing levels of oestrogen may lead to menstrual changes, hot flushes, loss of libido, wrinkling of the skin and moodiness.

Many women these days are now turning to isoflavones to nutritionally support their body's natural oestrogen levels. Soy beans contain the oestrogenically active compound isoflavone which provides the components Daidzein and Genistein.

This substance acts like oestrogen in the body by stimulating oestrogen receptors. Soy beans also contain Coumestrol and Lignans which are hormone like substances that are metabolised in the intestines and absorbed into the bloodstream.

Many of the hormonal imbalances a women suffers may be ruduced by eating a diet high in isoflavones. Research also indicates the soy bean may lower the risk of cancer because it contains isoflavones.

Soy beans also help to lower blood cholesterol.
