Thomas Newcomen was born in was an English inventor born in Devon, England, in 1663. Newcomen is sometimes called the "Father of the industrial revolution"> Thomas was famous for his invention of an "atmospheric steam engine" which was used by the mines for pumping water.

Thomas Newcomen died in 1729. In 1920, the "Newcomen Society" was founded.
