The Alter-Real horse originates in Portugal. Their name comes the village Alter do Chão. The Alter Real horse was established in 1748, by the House of Braganza in Villa do Portel.

Height : 15 - 16 hh.

Colours : All solid colours.

Identifying Features : Small head, strong shoulders, short body, deep girth, hard legs, thick mane, sloped pasterns.

A quality Portuguese saddle horse.

Highly strung horse, yet very intelligent.
