AKHAL-TEKE HORSE

The Akhal-Teke horse is a breed from Turkmenistan, where they are the national emblem. They get their name from the nomadic tribe that bred them. They are thought to be one of the oldest surviving breeds of horse.

Use : Riding, racing, endurance, competition.

Height : 14.2 - 15.2

Colours : Chestnut, bay.

Identifying Features : Small head, long slender neck, high shoulders, long back, scanty mane, low set tail, fine skin, metallic sheen to coat.

Magnificent movement.

Sometimes headstrong and difficult.

Enormous stamina.

Once, a group of Akhal-Teke were ridden on a 84 day trek across 2,500 miles, including three days in the desert with no water.
