April Fools Day probably has evolved from several different cultures over a long period of time.
In France, the New Year use to begin on March 25 and end on April 1.
When New Year shifted to January 1, many people continued to celebrate April 1 as the New Year and these people were regarded as April Fools.
From this eventually stemmed April Fools Day.
Scotland actually celebrates April Fools Day for two days.
April Fools Day is about simple fun, not about gift giving.
