Pen History

Pen History may go back as far as 3,000 BC when the reed pen might may have been used for writing on parchment. The Dead Sea Scrolls that were discovered in 1947 and have been dated back to around 100 BC are believed written with quills.

The discovery of a pen with a bronze nib in the ruins of Pompei showes nibs were used as far back as AD 79.

On May 25, 1827, inventor Petrache Poenaru was issued a patent from the French Governmant for the invention of the fountain pen.

On October 30, 1888, Johm J Loud was issued with the first patent on a ballpoint pen.

The fibre, or felt-tipped pen was invented by Yukio Horie of the Tokyo Stationery Company, Japan in 1960. In 1979, Papermate introduced erasable ballpoint pens.
