The Brabant is an extremely old breed of horse which can be traced to the prehistoric horses of the alluvial period and is likely to be related to the Ardennes.
Height : 16.2 - 17 hh.
Colours : Mostly red roan with black points, also, bay, grey, chestnut, dun.
Identifying Features : Smallish square head, heavily muscleed neck, powerful shoulders, thick compact body, rounded quarters, short strong legs, heavy feathering.
Bred mainly in Brabant, Belguim.
Once used as a war horse.
The Brabant has influenced many other breeds of draft horses.
