Walter Plunkett

Walter Plunkett was born in 1902 in Oakland, California. He studied law at the University of California and was a member of the California-Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

In 1923, Plunkett shifter to New York City and gained work as a costume and set designer. After then moving to Hollywood and doing some work as a movie extra, in 1926 he was appointed head of the Wardrobe department of RKO Studios.

Then in 1947, Walter joined MGM studios.

Probably his best known work is for the two films, Gone with the Wind and Singin' in the Rain.

Plunkett shared an Oscar with Orry-Kelly and Irene for An American in Paris, in 1951. Plunkett retired in 1966. He passed away in 1982.
