Jean Muir was born in 1928 in London, England.
Muir studied at the Bedford Girls' Modern School (now, Dame Alice Harpur School) in Bedford.
At age 15, Jean started work as a salesgirl at Liberty.
From 1956 to 1961 she worked for Jaeger as a designer.
Muir started producing clothes under her own label in 1961, called "Jane and Jane".
Then in 1966, she founded her own company, Jean Muir Ltd.
Jean Muir passed away in 1995.
In 1984, Muir was awarded a CBE.
She was also a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers.
Jean Muir was also awarded the Minerva Medal, the Society's highest award.
She won the Museum of Costume's Dress of the Year award three times.
