Wolfgang Joop

Wolfgang Joop was born in 1944 in Potsdam, Germany. Joop completed his Abitur at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium high school in Braunschweig, then studied advertising psychology in Braunschweig. In 1968, Wolfgang started formal studies of art.

Joop and his then wife Karin won three prizes in a fashion competition sponsored by the German magazine, Constance. From there, Joop became a fashion editor at the women's magazine, Neue Mode.

From there, Joop weent to work as a freelance journalist.

In 1978, Joop gained international success with his first fur collection. By 1982, Wolfgang had presented his first prêt-à-porter women's collection. In 1985, Joop presented his first men's collection. In 1987, Joop presented his first perfume collection.

Joop was honored with the Fil d'or, a major design award in 1983. In 1984, Wolfgang Joop received the Golden spinning wheel from the European Silk Commission.
