De La Renta Oscar was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Studied art at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid.
Worked for a short time as a sketcher for Balenciaga.
In 1961, De La Renta Oscar moved to Paris as an assistant to Antonio del Castillo at Lanvin.
Moved to New York on 1962 where he worked for Elizabeth Ardin as a designer.
Later, De La Renta Oscar designed for Jane Derby, and after her death, took over the firm under his own name.
