Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger was born in 1952 in Elmira, New York. He grew up in a large family of nine children and attended Elmira Free Academy high school.

Tommy started work at 18, in retail. Hilfiger opened his own store and named it the, "The People's Place". The store which was located in downtown Elmira, eventually closed due to a shift in population shopping demographics. Designed for Jordache before launching his own line.

In 1984, he founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation. Hilfiger and his partners, Silas Chou, Lawrence Stroll and Joel Horowitz, took the company public in 1992. His range includes, jeans, mens sportswear, womens clothing, jewelry, fragrances and more.

In 1995, Hilfiger won the CFDA award for menswear designer of the year.
