Romeo Gigli

Romeo Gigli was born in Castelbolognese, Faenza, Italy, on 12 December 1949. In his early years, Romeo studied architecture.

In 1972, Gigli designed his first clothes after a store in Bologna had asked Gigli to design clothes based on the avant-garde street fashions. In 1978, Gigli designed a collection of menswear for Piertro Dimitri in New York.

In 1972, Gigli founded his own label and company with production of his designs manufactured by Novara based company Zamasport. Gigli separated from his two business partners in 1991 and did a complete restructuring of his business.

Awards: Accademia del Profumo award [for fragrance packaging], 1990; Woolmark award, 1990; American Fragrance Foundation award [fragrance packaging], 1991. Englands Bath Costume Museum chose one of Romeo Gigli's creations as its 1991 dress of the year.
