Valentino Garavani Biography

Valentino Garavani was born in Italy. At a young age he studied fashion under designer Ernestina Salvadeo.

At age 17, Valentino moved to Paris and studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts and Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. Garavani later worked with Guy Laroche for 2 years.

In the 1960s, Valentino moved to Rome and opened his own fashion house. Then Garavani meets and forms a business partnership with Giancarlo Giammetti.

In 1962, Valentino made his first international debut in Florence. Garavani designed the white dress that Jacqueline Kennedy wore with her wedding to Aristotle Onassis. In 2006, Valentino Garavani was awarded the prestigious Legion d'Honneur, by President Chirac of France.
