Andre Courreges

Andre Courreges was born in 1923 in France. Early on he found work as a designer of footwear and mens clothing, but during world war two he was a pilot.

After the war, Courreges returned to Paris and worked for Jeanne LaFaurie. In 1950, Andre gained an apprentiship with Balenciaga.

In 1961, Andre Courreges founded his own fashion house, Maison de Courreges. He soon gained the reputation as the father of the mini-skirt.

In 1972, Courreges was assigned the job of designing the garments for 15,000 employees at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Andre launched his menswear line, Courreges Homme, in 1973. Then in 1979, Courreges expanded into beauty products and leather goods.
