Jean Colonna was born in 1955 in Algeria, North Africa.
Colonna studied fashion design at the Chambre Couture School in Paris.
From 1977 to 1979, Colonna was as an assistant to Pierre Balmain.
Then in 1980, Jean founded a jewellery business.
In 1985, Colonna founded his own fashion salon.
In the same year, Jean presented his first collection in Paris.
By 1997, he had opened his first fashion boutique in Tokyo.
He has sometimes been tagged the King of Gallic Grungewear.
Others have described his designs as a sort of combination chic, smut, club girl and punk.
