Stephen Burrows was born in New Jersey in 1943.
Burrows attended the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New york.
He went tp work for the New York departmental store Henri Bendel in 1968.
In 1973, Burrows founded his own design house in partnership with Roz Rubenstein.
During his career Burrows was awarded the prestigious Coty Fashion Award three times.
Stephen Burrows was also honoured by being among those the city of New York honoured when they placed bronze plaques along the pavement of 7th Avenue to honour certain American fashion designers.
