Donald Brooks (born Donald Marc Blumberg) was born in New York, USA, in 1928.
Brooks attended the Fine Arts School of Syracuse University in New York and the prestigious Parsons School of Design.
His first job was as a window designer for department store Lord & Taylor.
In 1963, Brooks founded his own store.
From 1961 Brooks also designed for film, theatre and TV.
Brooks designed costumes for numerous Broadway Plays, including Promises, Promises, No Strings, and Barefoot in the Park - Television shows including The Letter, The Two Mrs. Greenvilles and feature length motion pictures - Star!, Darling Lili and The Cardinal.
Brooks was awarded the the Parsons Medal for Distinguished Achievement in 1974, and the Coty American Fashion Award in the years 1958, 1962, 1967 and 1974.
One of his most famous clients was, First Lady Jackie Kennedy.
