Travis Banton

Travis Banton was born August 18, 1894 in Waco, Texas. Banton attended Columbia University and the Art Students League where he studied art and fashion design.

Travis did his early apprenticeship the couture house of Madame Frances and then the house of Lucile. Banton then opened his own dressmaking salon in New York City.

In 1924, Banton made the move to Hollywood after Paramount contracted with him to create costumes. He went on to create costumes for Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Carole Lombard, Mae West and others.

Banton eventually left Paramount and designed for Twentieth Century-Fox from 1939-1941 and Universal from 1945-1948.
