John Wesley Biography

John Wesley was born June 17, 1703, in Epworth, England. As a child, John recived his early education from his parents.

In 1713, John was enrolled at the Charterhouse School, London. In 1720, he entered at Christ Church College, Oxford. In 1728, Wesley became a Minister in the Church of England.

In 1729, Wesley returned to Oxford. Here, along with his younger brother, Charles and some fellow students, they formed a group that became known as the "Methodists".

After a failed mission in the North American colony of Georgia, Wesley returned to London. Here, Wesley came under the influence of the Moravian Church. In 1739, Wesley built a Methodist Chapel in Bristol.

John Wesley died March 2, 1791. During his life, Wesley is said to have preached 40,000 sermons.
