Beatrix Potter Biography

Beatrix Potter was born July 28, 1866 in London, England. Potter was educated at home by a series of governesses. Because of this, Beatrix spent most of her time alone with her pet animals.

Beatrix owned two rabbits, named Benjamin and Peter. Potter spent much of her time sketching the rabbits.

Finally, in 1902, Potter was accepted by publishers Frederick Warne & Company. Her story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was published with good success. Beatrix went on to write 23 books which were all published.

At one stage, Potter was engaged to Norman Warne, but he died before the wedding. In 1913, she married her solicitor, William Heelis. Beatrix Potter died in Sawrey, Lancashire, December 22, 1943.
