Mohandas Gandhi was born Oct. 2, 1869, Porbandar, near Bombay, India.
His family belonged to the Hindu merchant caste "Vaisya".
Mohandas Gandhi was married at only 13 years old.
At age 19, Mohandas Gandhi was sent overseas to study law at "University College in London".
Mohandas Gandhi returned to India in 1891.
By 1906, Mohandas had began his peaceful revolution.
Gandhi soon had a large following of the masses in his push for "home rule."
In 1919, Mohandas Gandhi became a leader in the newly formed Indian National Congress political party.
In 1920 Gandhi advocated a noncooperation campaign against Britain which led to his imprisonment from 1922 to 1924.
Finally, in 1947 India gained independence.
However, the subcontinent was split into two countries (India and Pakistan).
Jan. 30, 1948: Mohandas Gandhi was killed.
